Revolutionary archaeological finds in Serra da Capivara forced to completely reconsider the theory of settlement of the Americas through the Bering Strait after the end of the ice age. It turned out that people lived well in those areas before the onset of glaciation.

Revolutionary archaeological finds in Serra da Capivara forced to completely reconsider the theory of settlement of the Americas through the Bering Strait after the end of the ice age. It turned out that people lived well in those areas before the onset of glaciation. According to recent studies, the area covering Serra da Capivara national Park was inhabited by hunters and gatherers, followed by ceramic cultures.

Archaeological excavations in Boqueirao da Pedra suggest that people may have settled in the region as early as 50,000 years ago, while the oldest rock paintings found before date back to the 10th Millennium BC. In the light of these new discoveries, the region is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world and is an outstanding Testament to one of the oldest human cultures in South America.
