Drink mineral water to get the required calcium, according to a German study. A new study, conducted by a team of researchers at the University of Leibniz in Hanover, Germany, proves that drinking mineral water can be a good way to deliver calcium along with milk and other dairy products.

Scientists continue to claim that mineral water can be an even better alternative to low-calorie milk or taking tablets that correspond to the amount of calcium needed daily. Researchers monitor how much the body can absorb calcium from five different products, each containing 300 mg of calcium, including three types of calcium-rich mineral waters, milk and calcium.

Twenty-one men and women participated in the study to see that there is no difference in how different genders absorb the important element of the five different sources in the body. Scientists have found that the presence of other minerals in water has no effect on calcium absorption.

For us, mineral water is the ideal means of obtaining calcium for the body. The product is an alternative to calories contained in milk and various other dairy products, says lead researcher Professor Theresa Gripner.

In a world of steadily increasing numbers of overweight and obese people, it is important to reduce energy intake and promote alternatives to meet the demand for calcium other than high-calorie milk and dairy products, she said.

It is known that the human body can extract calcium from two sources – from the food that is consumed or from the bones. When the body begins to receive calcium from the bones, they weaken, causing many problems. Besides the dairy products that are rich in the important element are broccoli, figs and almonds.

According to the World Health Association, men between the ages of 19 and 70 should take about 1000 mg of calcium per day, while men aged 70 years and over 1200 mg per day. Women between 19 and 50 years of age should take 1000 mg of calcium per day, whereas those over 50 years need 1200 mg daily.
